When Grace Visits Pt. III

Empowered by Grace

Luke 1:35-37 (NIV)  35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.  36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month.  37 For nothing is impossible with God.”

Grace can be unsettling because God works in and through us beyond our resources and capabilities. His call is beyond what is humanly possible. Without Him and His involvement we are left utterly helpless. But again, that’s what grace is all about: Grace is divine empowerment and enablement. The role of the Holy Spirit in our lives in to enable us do what God wants of us. The Holy Spirit is God the enabler, the executor of the work of the Father and the Son. When you feel overwhelmed, God’s Spirit will overshadow you.

Mary, a virgin, had no capacity to bear a child, let alone the Savior of the world. She was highly favored by God but nevertheless a sinner. To bear the Son of God, she had to be overshadowed and empowered by the Holy Spirit. None of us can accomplish anything of any spiritual and eternal significance without the work of the Holy Spirit in and through us. By the power of the Holy Spirit God does what is humanly impossible. Is there a task God is calling you to accomplish? You may feel overwhelmed, but through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, God will accomplish it.

Yes, nothing is impossible with God!
