1 Peter 4: 7-11. The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen (NIV).
A life of fervent prayer
The end is near. Now, for many people when we talk of “the end” it casts pictures of gloom and fear. To the believers in Christ, the imminent end of all things means a lot to us. First of all, “the end of all things” will be accomplished by the second coming of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. The word “end” is the same one that means “purpose” or “goal.”
So although your life is short, it is also meaningful; it has a goal. You were created to live for a purpose. As someone said you are not an accident. So, since we know that the end is near how should we live? The Bible gives us guidelines that will help us define the life that we ought to live.
“The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray” (verse 7). You see our lives can be crammed with so many things, study, work, friends, shopping, vacations; we are too busy. That’s why the Bible tells us to be clear-minded and sober.
What are the things that confuse you and make you drunk, so to speak? They could even be good things like work or church life. You see, all meaningful life begins with God. The quality of your life is not measured by how much money you have, or the car you drive, but the quality of your relationship with God.
One way to have quality relationship with God is through prayer. Prayer is simply communing with God—declaring our ignorance and insufficiency to him. When we fail to pray we are simply saying we are smarter than God. So if you want to live this short but meaningful life, be sober and pray. He wants to speak His heart to you. He wants to share with you His vision for the world. Your best life begins with the life of prayer.
