- God’s Word
Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you (NIV).
The Word of God is the mind of God. God has revealed His will to us so that we can walk in it. It is possible to know the will of God. It is possible to walk in the will of God. It is possible to live according to the will of God. God gives us the grace to do what He requires of us (Philippians 2:12-13).
The Word of God speaks explicitly on a wide range of issues regarding human life and experiences. Sometimes we do not fail to do the will of God out of ignorance but rather because of our unwillingness to obey. Because of the permissive nature of our cultures, more and more people find it either hard or impossible to do what God has revealed in His Word. Many people would rather deal with issues pragmatically than follow God’s instructions.
Do you find it easy to live according the biblical principles? Why or why not?
- Godly People
Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm (NIV).
Although, as we saw above, God’s has revealed His will on many issues, there are other aspects that are rather intricate. For instance, we know from the word of God that when it comes to marriage relationships we should marry those who are in the household of faith (2 Corinthians 6:14). But when it comes to choosing a particular potential spouse, we can’t marry every Christian or even committed ones at that. We need other indicators to discern how the Lord might be leading us in this area.
One way to handle such scenarios is by having Godly people around you. You need people who will tell you what you need to hear; not necessarily what you want to hear. You may have what you think is a very wonderful plan but without Godly counsel, you will find yourself making mistakes. The people you walk with influence how you think, the judgments and discussions you make. The quality of your life is largely influenced by the quality of people you surround yourself with. If you walk with God-fearing people, you will become more and more Christ-like in your character. Your associations matter. People who speak into your life matter.
Does your core circle of friends help you make Godly choices? Why or why not?
