He’s Risen; So What?

And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith (1 Corinthians 15:14 NIV).

If you are a Christian, you probably know that Easter season is one of the most important seasons in the Christian calendar. But I also wonder how many of us have seriously considered the ramifications of the resurrection of Jesus Christ in our faith and life. Yesterday (Thursday April 2, 2015) a group of Al-Shabab terrorists attacked a college in Eastern Kenya and massacred 147 students. Is the Easter message relevant to people who are dealing with such happenings as these? Why is the resurrection of Jesus Christ such a big deal?

  1. Hope in times of uncertainty: The resurrection of Jesus reminds us that death is not final. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the “firstfruits” of those who have died (1 Corinthians 15:20). Jesus is the living proof that there is hope beyond the grave. The Bible tells us that resurrected life will be more glorious, free of the limitations and infirmities of this present one. If Jesus defeated death, there is nothing He cannot defeat. There is hope that time will come when every wrong will be righted and everyone will receive justice.
  2. Power over sin, evil and death. Jesus overcame, so we can overcome. Many times we feel powerless and unable to disentangle ourselves from bondages and addictions in our lives. Jesus overcame so that we may also overcome. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work (1 John 3:8). The Word of God says that God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). Those who belong to Christ are united with Him and in His name and power they have victory over the devil and his works.
  3. Jesus Christ is God. The resurrection of Jesus Christ by his own power is proof that he is God. He is, therefore, able to save us. He is the revealer of God’s grand plan.  No wonder the Angelic hosts in heaven exclaimed: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God    persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.” (Revelation 5:9).  Jesus Christ is worthy of our total devotion and worship.

 Happy Resurrection Season!!
